You’re holding a chicken, a beaker of green goo, and a 47-item to-do list… while your boss breathes fire because you said yes. Again.
That’s not leadership. That’s emotional acrobatics.
65% of us will do anything to avoid conflict.
We’ll say yes when we mean no.
We’ll smile while our boundaries disintegrate.
We’ll even follow directions we know are wrong — just to stay “nice.”
And that’s not kindness. That’s fear in polite clothing.
In my coaching sessions and Leadership Academies, I teach a framework called C.A.R.E. — because being “nice” isn’t the goal. Being real, clear, and kind is.
It goes like this:
C – Check your motive. Are you helping or avoiding discomfort?
A – Acknowledge the discomfort. Growth lives there.
R – Reveal your reality. Say what you can do instead of what you can’t.
E – End with care. Truth and compassion can share a room — and should.
If this hits a nerve, it’s because you already know you’re too nice sometimes.
And maybe… it’s time to stop.
