The Boss Face That Could Murder a Seagull (and Your Culture)
We all know about “resting boss face.” But one of my clients had a version so intense it could kill an albatross mid-flight.
Here’s the problem: He wasn’t mad. He was just thinking. Yet his team saw his furrowed brow and dagger eyes and assumed:

“He hates me.”
-
“He’s disappointed.”
-
“He’s about to fire someone.”
Lesson #1: Your team doesn’t hear your intentions. They read your expressions.
Once we showed him video feedback, he realized his “thinking face” was sabotaging trust. After shifting his micro-expressions (tiny adjustments of eyebrows, mouth, and body posture), his team stopped hiding and started collaborating again.
Lesson #2: Conflict isn’t just verbal. Your body language and facial signals can trigger fight-or-flight responses even when you say nothing.
Lesson #3: If you want loyalty, warmth, and buy-in, your face needs to send the same invitation your words do.
So—next time you’re deep in thought, check yourself:

Are you solving problems in your head… or silently auditioning for a villain role in a horror film?

Is your body language saying, “Let’s build together,” or “I might eat you alive”?
Because culture doesn’t die in strategy meetings. It dies in the tiny looks that make people feel unsafe.
Uncomfortable truth: Sometimes the scariest thing in a company isn’t a bad market… it’s your eyebrows.
