🪞The Mirror Lied and the Brain Bought It
You ever walk into a meeting and just know someone doesn’t like you?
You feel the micro-judgment, the invisible rejection, the vibe shift.
Except none of it’s real.
Your brain just pressed play on an old mental movie and handed you the popcorn.
Researchers once told a group of women they were applying fake scars on their faces—ugly, realistic ones. They let them see their “disfigured” faces in the mirror. Then right before the interviews, the scientists secretly removed all the makeup.
No scars.
Perfectly normal faces.
But when those women came back, every single one said they’d been judged, dismissed, pitied.
They were sure of it.
That’s what the brain does when it’s running on confirmation bias. It hunts for evidence of what it already believes.
When your internal story screams “I’m being attacked,” the world obeys.
That’s not intuition. It’s wiring.
And this is why leaders who don’t rewrite their mental scripts keep bleeding credibility in silence.
They mistake anxiety for awareness.
They interpret neutrality as threat.
They start building armor where they actually need curiosity.
You don’t need thicker skin.
You need better coding.
Because your team, your peers, your clients—they can feel the emotional frequency you broadcast. And if it says “I’m already hurt,” they’ll tiptoe, retreat, or fight back.
So sometimes it’s not discrimination.
Sometimes it’s just Thursday, and your brain is still playing reruns from last decade.
