I mediated another conflict this week and one sentence stopped the room.
“It’s too late. We can’t start over. It is what it is.”
And honestly, they weren’t wrong. You can’t rewind it. The email went out. The words landed. The moment already happened.
What I shared with them was simple.
You may not get a different beginning, but you do get to decide how this ends.
Once something goes sideways, people assume the outcome is locked in. Like the relationship is permanently damaged or the team is just going to stay tense.
It doesn’t have to.
Leadership shows up in the ending. In how you close the loop. In whether you leave things fractured or leave people clear enough to move forward.
If something on your team feels past the point of fixing, stop trying to undo it. Decide how you want it to end.
